Almas

A metal hardcore and sludge metal background, a classical training and triggered by Massive Attack, Lamb and Orbital. Almas is Russian for diamond, in Mongolian culture it's a wild man and the Spanish call the soul 'alma'. Different meanings for ever changing feelings: hope, melancholy and anger all come together in his technoid compositions and sonic hallucinations. www.myspace.com/maemmusic

Anton Price

Anton Price is a jazz drummer turned electronic producer and back again. He has his own space-time continuum in which age-old African rhythms co-exist more or less peacefully with signals from the future. Where Kid Baltan plays chess with Tom Jenkinson, watching Logan's Run and drinking battery acid. Comparisons are easily made, but never fully appreciate the scope of all parties involved. Certain tracks on the new Autechre album 'Oversteps' for example, sound like Anton Price compositions from ten years back. Meaning no disrespect, only emphasizing the curious position he holds: outside any genre or scene. Skam label manager and dj extraordinaire Rob Hall frequently injects his sets with one of Price's puzzling breakbeats, full on energy and melody. Albums and ep's by Anton Price have become collector's pieces for people who fancy a bit of complexity between their climaxes, a short story between the beats. In another incarnation he drums and sings like a modern day Chet Baker with his own Dago Sondervan Quintet - including key players in Belgian jazz such as Jon Birdsong (Beck) and Eric Morel (Think Of One). For a theater tour he arranged his versions of Randy Newman's repertoire for a nine men band and forty strings. As Bohr Bug he released brooding electro and techno work-outs. Years ago he introduced jungle and rave in the Low Lands as DJ Dago. The Lambda festival in Antwerp - which he curates - will see a performance of yet a new project, Drummers Without Drums. All these bionic parts assemble into a shining compilation on Morse Records: 'Anton Price 1998 - 2018', a retrospective with a prospective twist. As a companion we release a limited vinyl edition: 'The Black Railway EP', boasting two brand new tracks and including a cd-r of the anthology.

Artificial Latvamäki

Dirt. That's everywhere. And dust. Especially when you're not vacuum cleaning enough. Everything seems broken, chaotic and ready to collapse, yet there's some kind of thin feeling, that keeps growing and growing until overflowing like a bath tub with too much water in it. It's the everyday things that I put into my music. How hard they are to handle, the harder the music is to understand when listened afterwards. When there's no-one around to talk to all that dirt must go somewhere, and in to the songs it goes. My life is not polished, it's not nearly always even fun, it is now also not. But what it is always, it is genuine. At best I don't have a clue what happened to the song, or where did it come from. I believe in accidents, I believe in sounds coming from outside, from an open window. I trust my bedroom's reverb, and I trust my broken guitar. All the best sounds come from my own recordings, from moments when I decide to insert kitchen utensils between the strings of an instrument and play notes that just do not exist. Most of my music is written to the people I know or have known. We all change, usually for the worse.

Chymera

Chymera (real name Brendan Gregoriy) hails originally from Cork, Ireland. Throughout his teenage years he was heavily immersed in various forms of guitar based music, from metal to folk. After moving to Limerick for a year at the turn of the century to attend college he was first exposed to electronic music. Upon his subsequent move to Dublin he had thrown himself headfirst into DJing, quickly latching onto the various sounds of techno. In 2002 he made his first steps into production and over the following years progressed through electronica and electro to more dancefloor friendly techno and house. In late 2006 and early 2007 he had his first international releases on labels Urban Torque, Supreme Entertainment and Mezzotinto, the latter of which; "Midnight at the Aquarium", swiftly brought him to the attention of many house and techno luminaries. He followed those up with key releases on labels like Ovum, NRK, Morse and Delsin, further cementing his trademark melodic sound in the minds of DJs and music aficionados alike. "Arabesque" released on Tishomingo became possibly his most popular track when Luciano used it as his finale at many gigs. It was also licensed to several high profile mixes on Global Underground (by Felix Da Housecat), Renaissance (by Sander Kleinenberg) and Fabric (by Luciano). As a result of the success of the beatless mix of "Umbrella" (Ovum), he was voted third best chillout artist in the 2007 beatport awards. 2008 has seen him relocate to Barcelona in Spain, and also adopt a more considered approach to releases, with tracks on Connaisseur and Figure which have won him more acclaim and broader critical recognition. His DJ and live schedule is also booming and has taken him from Russia to Japan and all throughout Europe. www.myspace.com/chymeramusic

Hugh Like

Hugh Like (Jonas Van Avermaet) knows a thing or two about music. After hearing a mix by Stacey Pullen, he traded his drum for a Nord synthesizer. At the same time he took up the violin - no wonder his strings sound classic. In his dj and live sets he combines all his influences and one day he will perform that 'air' from the Third Suite by Bach. Who said minimal?

Lamont

Hip hop heads aren't what they used to be. They might still wear a baseball cap and walk a bit o-legged, but musically their scope is broader than ever. Former Belgian DJ Champion Lamont was never one to limit himself to two turntables and a microphone. His latest project involves the newest technology in sound and imagery. It's an environment in which dexterity and musicality embrace one another in a fast and furious sequence of beats and effects. Sampling, improvisation, live guitars and projections all take place at the same time, with Lamont as the prime conductor. To capture the soul of these remarkable performances Morse Records will release all this on a special dvd. With the visual assistance of Blub and the string picking of Carlos Dyckmans Lamont succeeds in creating a happening that goes beyond a music album or a concert video. It's both, and more.

Metrobox

Musician in heart and soul. He started his musical journey at 7 by playing the flute, to add guitar and bass a couple of years later.

After some experiments in funk and rock bands, he got into DJ-ing as Vice. Through soulful and chicago house, he arrived were he likes to be nowadays: the no-man's-land between house and techno, where sounds and beats are warm and energetic.

Red D

Red D started listening to new beat and Belgian rave anthems around 1989 and slowly discovered the good stuff. Laurent Garnier's "Shot In The Dark" was the album that truly triggered the quest for knowledge. A quest that has led Red D to Chicago, Detroit, New York and back. An eternal love for the originators of these cities defines the sound of Red D...
